Our Lady of Revelation

This is one I have been working on for several months now of The Blessed Mother of Christ. Here, we see her as the woman in Revelation, who is 'clothed with the sun and a crown of 12 stars above her head'. So, I called her,'Our Lady of Revelation', as in, the 'book of'.
However, she has elements of other versions of her captured as Iconography, in this image as well:
With the pierced heart, she is also,'Our Lady of Sorrows', which shows us a symbol of the terrible pains of her heart she suffered with the knowledge of her Son's awful Passion.
And with one hand open to us, she is, 'Our Lady of Grace'. You will recall, the Archangel Gabriel saying to her,'Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with Thee'...

She is also crushing the head of the serpent(satan), mentioned in the book of Revelation. But notice how, despite the tender motion of her foot's position, she manages to crack the serpent's neck. I showed it this way, because typically, and especially in this modern age, women are encouraged to be strong and prove themselves as worthy as men in most any way possible. However, Mary's example is her strength is through her meekness, her gentleness and her humble obedience to God, allowing herself to carry, raise and watch suffer, her only Son. This humility and softness, is what makes her, and so many of us females, strong as well. It is not an either/or, but a both/and. I think Mary has much to teach us women of today, about what it means to be fragile, and delicate. I know that Her example has taught such things to me.


This image took me so long due to all manner of other things, obligations, other orders, and so on, getting in my way. It's a very important work for me, because I love The Blessed Mother, and she is also my patron saint.
