Our Lady of Mount Carmel by natamon Our Lady of Mount Carmel by natamon

This is one of my most recent icons I created for a customer, who very much desired a piece with Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She is the patroness of the Carmelite order of nuns.

People who have seen The Blessed Mother of Christ, all over the world, have seen her in different and unique ways-but always beautiful and radiant.
I used a friend's adorable new baby as the model for the baby Jesus. He's a real chub. :meow:
Here is more information on the origin of Our Lady of Mount Carmel:

Since the 15th century, popular devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel has centered on the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel also known as the Brown Scapular, a sacramental associated with promises of Mary's special aid for the salvation of the devoted wearer. Traditionally, Mary is said to have given the Scapular to an early Carmelite named Saint Simon Stock. The liturgical feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated on 16 July.
The Carmelites see in the Blessed Virgin Mary a perfect model of the interior life of prayer and contemplation to which Carmelites aspire, a model of virtue, as well as the person who was closest in life to Jesus Christ. She is seen as the one who points Christians most surely to Christ, saying to all what she says to the servants at the wedding at Cana, "Do whatever he [Jesus] tells you." Carmelites look to Mary as both a Spiritual Mother and Sister in Christ.[11] The Stella Maris Monastery on Mount Carmel, named after a traditional title of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is considered the spiritual headquarters of the order.

Very nice.

P.S Do you think the Pope did the right thing or not in doing the world and not Russia?

Thanks very much Crispin!
And please clarify what you mean by 'doing the world' in private message reply, as I am not sure by your wording what you meant to ask.

Lovely! I don't think I've seen that iconographic thing-- Mary orans with Jesus in a circle representing her womb, there's a Greek name for it but I can't remember-- with a particular apparition that has a look, outfit and such, associated with it. It's pretty neat.

Thanks so much Double-F.:meow: This is a style more often seen within Russian and related Orthodox iconography. They seem to have a facinating way of capturing the supernatural and Heaven, almost in a 2-Dimensional separation. For example, there will be what appears to be tears, or a cut in the sky, where saints and angels will be peeking out. Almost like layers of reality, which make me wonder what it was that inspired the first iconographer to create this artistic style-which so many followed afterward.
Thanks for your usual fabulously-worded and thought out comments!:la:
