This was a commission I just completed, as a surprise gift for a close friend's birthday. Their roommate asked me to create something-anything, with their household dog, Tommy. I have seen pics of Tommy, and he's a very cute, medium/large border collie with white, grey and gingery, fawn brown. So, I thought that most animals look grand in period piece clothing, and opted for something in the Tudor period (Renaissance Era) for ol Tommy. Here he is standing rather fancifully, feather in his cap, and wearing an imaginary family crest of the golden chew bone. He hasn't received it yet, but I look forward to his reaction!
Do you know someone who would appreciate a custom picture of their special pet? Drop me a line in the notes section of DA to share your idea with me...
size:5x7 media:mixed-inks,colored pencil, acrylics This will be available soon as a print in my shop..stay tuned...
Hi Merry! Thank you for your kind words. I wasn't quite sure what to do about the background, but I thought some sort of pattern over dark blue would appear regal. It was kind of a gamble. As for the clothes, I did some Tudor clothing and costume research, then made my own modifications to a costume image to fit the doggie body. Because, for some reason, I can't find enough pictures of dogs in period piece clothing.
Really? Are you foolin?? I'd love to-I am crazy about bull terriers! What were you thinking of capturing them in-matrix outfits? Ninjas? Something moody?
NO FOOLIN. I would take a bullet to see you do those.
I don't know WHAT kind of environments or costumes to use; I might just leave that up to you entirely. Regardless, after I get back from my Chicago trip this summer, we'll get the ball rollin.
Wow! A bullet? lol Well, the good news is you certainly won't have to do that to snag a custom-doggie-work for sure. You have such handsome dogs too-especially the white one-I love him. ^_^ I'll get back to you on it mid September-which I figure could give you a little time to ponder some costume/setting ideas. Sounds super.
